Takurua Vets is an independent veterinary clinic in Upper Riccarton, built around making veterinary care calmer for pets and easier for their people.
We are Zero Pain Philosophy accredited, and our team uses Fear Free handling techniques to help even anxious animals feel safe. We provide routine, surgical, diagnostic and hospital care, alongside urgent and after-hours treatment from our own clinic.
Open until 10pm on weekdays, with additional weekend hours, we give Christchurch pet owners a familiar place to turn when something cannot wait. Our team takes your concerns seriously, explains treatment options clearly and welcomes follow-up questions throughout your pet’s care.

My cat is a real scaredy cat and we have (with some trepidation) been using the cattery all year for stays of 2-4 days. I can't pretend Tessa likes it, and she is highly antisocial there, but they take care of her, she is safe and warm and getting used to it. Thanks to the team for putting up with Ms Grumpypants! The accommodation is excellent and the people caring.

From the very start to the very end i had a great experience here with my cat Larry this afternoon. We were seen on short notice and the great staff who took care of him were gentle, kind and caring. They made Larry feel very comfortable and treated him with lots of compassion. They came across as genuinely lovely people and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this clinic to anyone looking for a team that truly cares :)
