How we rank

Before you hire

Defining where a boundary legally sits is restricted work under the Cadastral Survey Act 2002, so check any surveyor doing it against the Cadastral Surveyors Licensing Board register. For a pre-purchase inspection, use a member of the NZ Institute of Building Inspectors (NZIBI) or a similar body, and confirm you will receive a written report. Ask an agent for recent sale prices against appraisal, a mortgage broker how many lenders they work with and whether the lender pays them a commission, and a property manager for their current vacancy rate.

The categories

Each category has its own ranking in every location listed. The review column is the median, across those locations, of the reviews held by the business ranked fifth.
