Best Local Businesses in Napier and Hastings

We build each category page from Google Maps results for that category in Napier and Hastings, then score every business on its public rating and review record. Businesses outside the area are left out, and so is a business whose Google profile does not list the category and whose reviews describe a different line of work. Across 61 categories that came to 976 businesses, of which 472 are listed. See how we rank for the full method.

A business needs a Google rating of at least 4.0 and at least 3 reviews before it is assessed at all. Beyond that, each category has its own floor: the smallest review count among the businesses listed there. At each category's last update the lowest floor in Napier and Hastings was 3 reviews (architects) and the highest was 85 (mechanics); the median across all 61 categories was 9. Review count is one of six scoring signals and counts on a logarithmic scale, so a bigger total does not simply win. See what else counts.

Every category and city is recrawled on a rolling cycle, about every two to three months. The most recent update in Napier and Hastings was 11 October 2026 and the least recent was 29 August 2026. Each category card above carries its own date.

No. Top 5 and Also Recommended positions are merit-only and cannot be purchased. Verifying a business is free, and adds a small trust bonus (+3 points) to its score for confirming a real operator stands behind the listing. A subscription adds a website link on the card, a public profile page, and competitor and ranking history in the owner's dashboard, none of which affects ranking position. Rankings cover businesses based within 28 km of the midpoint between Napier and Hastings, which takes in 71 named suburbs and localities. The filter uses the location on each business's Google listing, so a firm that serves the region from a base outside it is not listed.

The usual reasons are a Google Business category that does not match the page, too few reviews to score near the top, or an address outside the area we cover.
