In Auckland, Watercare says owners are responsible for pipes on their side of the point of supply, and asks you to call Watercare first before booking a tradesperson; for other cities, check with your local council or water utility. In a rental, tenants must tell the landlord straight away about anything needing repair, and careless damage is capped at four weeks rent or the landlord's insurance excess, whichever is lower.
